Duck Race 2015 – Fun Day
Was held on 1st February 2015
Otaihanga Reserve, Otaihanga
The Duck Race consists of 1,000 rubber ducks racing a 2,000 metre stretch of the Waikanae River. The ducks are dropped from the footbridge, caught in a net and then let off all at once.
They are all numbered, so purchase a ticket and if your duck wins you will be a winner as well! If ducks get caught on the side of the riverbank they will be pushed back into the race. The cost is $5 per ticket or $15 for four tickets. Tickets will be available on the day.
Prizes are: Panasonic LED TV, Panasonic Microwave, Panasonic Stereo Unit, TEAC Portable DVD Player, 2 of Remote Controlled Cars
There is more to this event than the Duck Race. The Lions Club is planning on having children’s games and entertainment plus popular produce stalls, local bands, sausage sizzle, etc.
Each year the race aims to raise funds for a local charity which for this year will be Mary Potter Hospice. Past events have contributed towards the Wellington Free Ambulance and the Red Puppy appeals.
